A packed Argentine grill with steaks and empanadas, Spanish city buildings behind

“Best asado in the world” vs the parrilla on your street

Ibai and Gaspi’s 5.5-million-view night at Don Julio is spectacle in Buenos Aires. Keep it as entertainment—then book a neighbourhood grill from the Spain directory.

This video is not a Madrid restaurant review. On 27 November 2025, Ibai posted El Mejor Asado del Mundo con Gaspi at Don Julio in Palermo, Buenos Aires—about 5.5 million views by 20 Oct 2026. It is a long, loud dinner: lots of staff, lots of cuts, lots of bits that are comedy rather than cooking.

We keep it because that is the clip Spain’s audience actually watched—and because it is a terrible way to pick dinner in Madrid. Spain’s Argentine rooms are not competing for “world’s best asador” bronze plaques. They are competing for Tuesday-night entraña that is not grey.

If we stretched this into a Madrid review, we would be lying. The honest frame: spectacle in Buenos Aires, booking in Spain. Steal three habits. Skip the pilgrimage.

Original explainer: the 5.5M video is Buenos Aires entertainment, not a Madrid booking.
Packed anonymous steakhouse with hanging lamps and grill glow — spectacle lighting is a cost centre

What the spectacle video accidentally teaches

Doneness is cultural. The table argues about how raw the entraña should be. In Spain, ask. “Al punto” on a Madrid menu often lands more cooked than a Palermo grill. If you want it juicier, say so in Spanish and point at a colour.

Service theatre is a cost centre. A floor that can lecture you on three-month-aged cuadril is delightful on holiday. On Calle de Ponzano you may want a shorter speech and a hotter plate. Directory reviews that mention wait time vs meat temperature are more predictive than a celebrity cameo.

“Best in the world” is a marketing loop. Don Julio’s fame feeds the pilgrimage that feeds the fame. A packed Barcelona asador with 4.8★ and 10,000 reviews can be the better local product even if no one from La Velada filmed there.

Volume is not a tasting menu. The camera eats for an audience. Two people in Spain should not match that plate count. Order two textures and a provoleta. You can always add.

Grain of salt

Do not try to recreate a Palermo tasting menu. Do not treat Gaspi’s jokes as a meat spec. Do not skip a neighbourhood room because it has no bronze plaque. The video is entertainment with a grill in the background.

Celebrity rooms also train you to confuse scarcity with quality. A three-month wait in Buenos Aires does not mean the entraña in Usera is worse. It means a different business model. Spain’s neighbourhood parrillas live on repeats, not on a once-in-a-lifetime vlog.

The Ibai video sits in the first row of entertainment and the last row of how to book. That is fine, as long as you do not mix the two.

How to book after the binge-watch

Open the Madrid map or Barcelona map. Filter with your stomach. In Valencia and Málaga the same filter is louder because there are fewer rooms: a logo-fire steakhouse is easier to spot.

Order two cuts, a provoleta, and a bottle you recognise. Take notes on salt and rest time. If the first plate arrives lukewarm, you already know more than a 5-million-view thumbnail told you.

For the other side of the same cuisine, read Argentine food beyond the steak and first asado: what to order.

Two steaks of different doneness on a board with chimichurri — ask for colour, not only ‘al punto’

Checklist

  1. Fire you can see vs logo fire.
  2. Doneness in Spanish + colour.
  3. Wait vs temperature in reviews.
  4. Two directory rooms, not a Buenos Aires throne.
  5. A plate count that fits two people, not a camera crew.
